Guest Post: Creation of Personal Reality by Eugenia Oganova

Each person perceives reality differently because each of us is unique (genetically, psychologically, emotionally, karmically).

Our personal reality is created through the way that we see life. It is based on previous experiences, beliefs we hold, cellular memory, subconscious influences from other lives and much more. And all of this is also affected by our current attitude, the lens through which we choose to view life. This lens triggers emotional responses, thoughts and actions. And since it is our reality, we then attract to us what resonates with our internal perceptions. This is how we create our personal reality:

Just Checking In ...

since I have been mostly MIA on the interwebs lately. I recently took on a second ... um ... third job. In addition to being headmistress of our chaotic homeschool and a writing teacher, keeping the world safe from run-on sentences, I'm working at the rehabilitation center.

I finally got around to replacing our missing header. I searched high and low, but I couldn't find the back-up I made of our old header. So we have a new one. I also (finally!) updated our directories: Film/Television Reviews, Book Reviews, and Fun Movie Lists. In the process, I discovered that our header wasn't the only thing that disappeared. At least half of our pictures, in our posts, were missing. Fixing that will be our next big blog project.

Happy Sunday!

Bachelorette (2012)

"Bachelorette" is the worst kind of comedy- tacky, shallow, mean-spirited, and unfunny. The venomously unlikable cast of characters will grate on you after the first five minutes... by the 80 minute mark, they're Hell. These gal pals will remind you of everything you don't like in human beings, hardly the tone to set for a romantic comedy.

Regan (Kirsten Dunst,) Gena (Lizzy Caplan,) and Katie (Ilsa Fisher)- ditzy, cruel, and devoid of charm- prepare for their friend Becky (Rebel Wilson)'s wedding. Infuriated that the 'fat girl,' who they always had a demeaning attitude toward, got engaged before them, the clueless three find themselves in big (and well-deserved) trouble when they rip Becky's wedding dress while playing a cruel joke.

Bachelorette (2012)

Written & Directed By:
Leslye Headland

My Rating:
2/5

Three irresponsible and emotionally unstable bridesmaids reunite for the wedding of their high school friend Becky (Rebel Wilson). Becky, who happens to be overweight, was dubbed "pig face" in high school. Her three s0-called friends haven't outgrown making jokes at her expense. It is in that spirit that they pull a prank that leads to inadvertantly tearing Becky's wedding gown. The rest of the night is a combination of a drinking- and drug-fest and a mad scramble to repair the dress in time for the wedding the next morning.

A Cat in Paris (2010)

Cat lovers who wonder where their beloved pet wanders off to at night will be surprised and delighted by "A Cat in Paris," a highly enjoyable, however brief, 2-D animated film. The decidedly strange animation is admittedly a little off-putting at first, but grows on the viewer with it's bright merry colors and distinct characters.

Young Parisian Zoe hasn't talked since the death of her father, a detective, by mad criminal Victor Costa (voiced by JB Blanc in the English-dubbed version.) With her distracted mother Jeanne (Marcia Gay Harden,) who is also a detective, fighting to hunt down Zoe's father's killer, Zoe is often left in the company of her cat, Dino, who by night is the accomplice to a jewel thief (Steve Blum,) a big-hearted rogue with a passion for danger.

Tideland (2005)

"Tideland," Terry Gilliam's fantastical horror brain child, is an undeniably original, unmistakably repulsive journey into the life and mind of one troubled little girl (Jodelle Ferland.) To say it outstays it's welcome it an understatement, the film clocks at over two hours and leaves an undeniably bad taste in one's throat. The characters are hard to comprehend, much less like or understand.

All this would be bad enough without the bizarre intro by Terry Gilliam, who vaguely informs us that children 'bounce back' from situations such as these and tells us 'don't forget to laugh.' But what is there to laugh at in a disgusting horror show such as this?  it's as if Dave Peltzer of 'A Child Called It' fame had promised us a knee-slapping good time.

Clay Pigeons (1998)

Apparently, filmmaker David Dobkin was inspired to make this after seeing "Fargo." Despite never reaching the creative heights as the Coens' 1996 masterpiece, "Clay Pigeons," set in a small Montana town peopled with idiosyncratic  characters, functions well as a unique independent film with bite and quirky oddness to spare.

Here's the deal- loser Clay (Joaquin Phoenix) is banging his best friend Earl (Gregory Sporleder's) white-trash girlfriend, Amanda (Georgina Cates). When Earl gets sick of being two-timed, he gets drunk and commits suicide in front of Clay, trying to frame him for his death.

This leads to a string of events that leave Clay totally shaken and out of his comfort zone, as bodies pile up, friendly serial killer Lester Long (played by Vince Vaughn, but don't let that run you off) befriends Clay, and acerbic FBI agent Agent Shelby (Jeanane Garofelo) is on the case.
