Some Links from Around the Blogiverse:

There's an interesting discussion at My Friend Amy -- sparked by her thoughtful post titled "Please Stop Telling me This Story" -- about the trope of a strong woman whose only weakness is a man.

One of my favorite bloggers, Lucy at Therapy Through Tolstoy, is discussing the novel Silver Linings Playbook which has recently been adapted to film: The Silver Linings Playbook, Mental Health, and Literature

Rebecca at Lost in Books published a post titled "What a Bookaholic Is Grateful For"

Pete at I Love That Film is discussing Social and Political Context and Distinctive Visual Features in world cinema.

Alex Withrow and Nikhat posted Favorite Character Introductions in Movies

Alexander at  Cinemaniac Reviews is hosting a Flogathon -- he invites you to "rant–sarcastically and exaggeratedly spew–about something film-related you just can’t stand." I definitely agree with his thoughts on MPAA ratings.

My older daughter summed up my feelings on the usefulness of MPAA ratings very nicely the other day while the kids and I were watching Planes, Trains & Automobiles, our go-to family Thanksgiving movie. "This movie is rated R for F bombs, and I saw a PG-13 rated movie in which they brutally murdered a cat!"

To quote Jubal Early in Firefly ("Objects in Space"), does that seem right to you??

    1. Fair enough, Josh. I daresay we all have a LOT to say about the MPAA. Oy!

It's funny that I'd never seen Dog Day Afternoon -- I really did like it. It was much different from what I'd expected.

  4. I love the Morally-ambiguous Characters list, that's a good one. I'll check out your review of The Ice Storm as I've been curious about that film in a while.
