In order to explore those regions, and also to give himself something new to write about, he continues to create new characters.

He still has all the old characters, though. He knows what he wants to do with them next, but since those things have to wait while all these new things happen he ends up just having those characters wander around, killing time, until he can start them on their next big event (i.e. Arya in book 3, Brienne in book 4, Dany in books 2 and 5, Tyrion in book 5).Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455799919149349621.post-68323501722415067092013-04-20T19:39:29.097-07:002013-04-20T19:39:29.097-07:00I'm feeling the same way about the series, Chi...I'm feeling the same way about the series, Chip. The first few books were lengthy, but I felt nothing was wasted -- they were truly that rich. Now I'm seeing an increasing amount of unnecessary detail, as if Martin got tired of thoroughly editing his work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455799919149349621.post-35983303944833469982013-04-20T19:38:07.442-07:002013-04-20T19:38:07.442-07:00That was what hooked me into reading them. :-)That was what hooked me into reading them. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455799919149349621.post-79246073828153070522013-04-20T12:42:17.237-07:002013-04-20T12:42:17.237-07:00The good news is that you've got 3,000 pages d...The good news is that you've got 3,000 pages down. The bad news is that you've got 2,000 more to go, then a multi-year wait for more books.

I have to agree with the other commenter who said that books 4 and 5 were a come down. Martin had started writing in so much detail by then that you could almost feel the books collapsing under their own weight. Thankfully, I didn't have to wait 10 years for them like fans who had read the first three books early on had to.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455799919149349621.post-65036074445450936512013-04-18T20:48:22.595-07:002013-04-18T20:48:22.595-07:00I was wondering what you thought of MGP.
